Chrome: Unable to scroll while page loads (SOLVED!)

Solution: If you don’t wish to read the entire post, the solution I found was to disable Adblock+ in Chrome.

Over the past few months I have gotten extremely frustrated with the fact that I am unable to scroll a page while any page loads (in the foreground or background, separate tabs, etc).  After all pages have loaded, scrolling works flawlessly.  However, not being able to scroll while a page loads is by far the most frustrating thing I have ever experienced when surfing the internet.

Well I spent quite a bit of time looking around online for solutions to the problem.  Google’s Q&A site suggested disabling some firewall functionality on Windows; being on Mac, this didn’t help me at all.  I finally decided to switch to a separate Chromium based web browser, SRWare Iron.  SRWare Iron gives you all the benefits of google’s Chrome browser, without the privacy concerns.  Some of the differences include the lack of an installation ID, does not provide search suggestions (search data not sent to google), etc.  For a full list of the differences, reference SRWare’s website.

Switching to Iron seemed to have solved the problem.  One thing I like about Iron is that it comes with a built in adblocker.  You can add a list of things to block by putting them in the ‘adblock.ini’ file.  For a sample list, see this link.

After a while of using Iron, I decided that I wanted to block the video ads on youtube.  As most people know, the popular Chrome extension Adblock+ has functionality to block the video ads.  I installed this extension in Iron and lo-and-behold I was again unable to scroll while pages loaded.  So I removed Adblock+ and no more scrolling issues.  I figured that this meant Adblock+ was the problem, so I went back to Google Chrome and disabled the Adblock extension.  Voila!! No more scrolling issues.

I still am using SRWare Iron instead of Google Chrome, but mainly just because I spent a lot of time setting it up in a way that I like and I don’t feel like taking the time to do the same to Chrome.

NOTE: One problem with Iron is the inability to view .PDF files within the browser.  While this is a rather small nuisance, it is still a nuisance.

Did this fix the problem for you?  Let me know in the comments.
