{"id":311,"date":"2011-12-21T12:00:42","date_gmt":"2011-12-21T19:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mattdturner.com\/wordpress\/?p=311"},"modified":"2011-12-20T13:39:46","modified_gmt":"2011-12-20T20:39:46","slug":"creating-workspaces-in-terminal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mattdturner.com\/wordpress\/2011\/12\/creating-workspaces-in-terminal\/","title":{"rendered":"Creating Workspaces in Terminal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you have read some of my other posts, you know that I like to have multiple terminal windows open whenever I am working. \u00a0This used to involve opening the Terminal app, and then opening multiple more windows. \u00a0Then I had to drag each window into the location that I wanted it to be at. \u00a0I later realized that I could have the Terminal app save my open windows as a Workspace, and could define a default workspace to be opened whenever Terminal is opened.<\/p>\n<p>This is rather simple to do, and can be accomplished by following the steps below:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open Terminal.<\/li>\n<li>Open and arrange the windows that you want to save as the workspace.<\/li>\n<li>Once all windows are open and in the desired locations, click <strong>Window<\/strong> and then <strong>Save Windows as Group&#8230;<\/strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-312\" title=\"save_workgroup\" src=\"http:\/\/mattdturner.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/save_workgroup-300x177.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"177\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mattdturner.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/save_workgroup-300x177.png 300w, https:\/\/mattdturner.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/save_workgroup.png 699w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>To set the default Window group, enter the Preferences within Terminal (command + , ).<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Startup<\/strong> tab, change &#8216;On startup, open&#8217; from &#8216;New window with settings:&#8217; to &#8216;Window group&#8217; and select the desired window group.<a href=\"http:\/\/mattdturner.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Terminal_prefs.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-313\" title=\"Terminal_prefs\" src=\"http:\/\/mattdturner.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Terminal_prefs-300x271.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mattdturner.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Terminal_prefs-300x271.png 300w, https:\/\/mattdturner.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Terminal_prefs.png 591w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ee;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span>Now whenever you open Terminal, the selected Window group will load by default.<\/p>\n<div class=\"zemanta-pixie\" style=\"margin-top: 10px; height: 15px;\"><a class=\"zemanta-pixie-a\" title=\"Enhanced by Zemanta\" href=\"http:\/\/www.zemanta.com\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"zemanta-pixie-img\" style=\"border: none; float: right;\" src=\"http:\/\/img.zemanta.com\/zemified_e.png?x-id=19be0d87-38bb-4899-8b0b-15bf25ef8319\" alt=\"Enhanced by Zemanta\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you have read some of my other posts, you know that I like to have multiple terminal windows open whenever I am working. \u00a0This used to involve opening the Terminal app, and then opening multiple more windows. \u00a0Then I had to drag each window into the location that I wanted it to be at.
